Especially when considering practically every dot com company was seen as a bust. It's easy to look back and say what would happen to your $1,000 if you bought Amazon at IPO, but it takes quite the psychological fortitude to believe in a company when it goes from $100/share to $5/share in under 3 years. Apple has a similar story of declines in its early days although not nearly as bad as Amazon.
