A Practical Alternative To Becoming A Digital Nomad

The hidden costs of the nomad lifestyle and alternatives

The digital nomad lifestyle became a popular way to travel the world on a budget. The premise is simple: work remotely and travel in affordable areas. The lifestyle works best for young people without children, but some families embrace the digital nomad lifestyle together.

Social media brought this trend into full bloom as people shared pictures of their vacation destinations. Even if each individual person you follow doesn’t travel often, their cumulative traveling and corresponding posts makes your social media feed look like a professional traveler.

Not fun if you find yourself cooped up in your area. More people want to travel, but budgeting for those travels presents a challenge. Traveling the world is unrealistic for most people and comes with hidden drawbacks.

Narrow Your Focus

Digital nomads get to see many parts of the world. Despite their best efforts, they will still miss out on many exciting destinations. I’ve accepted that I won’t see most of the world. The average American only visits 12 states. Americans like myself visit less than 25% of our own states, and we don’t visit every square footage of those states either.
